…not so much because of the dancing aspect but rather because of the unapologetic use of cheese dance and j-pop.  the time period in which i played DDR with any frequency (between 7 and 5 years ago) was before i listened to anything other than ska, emo, and a touch of what essentially at the time was pop punk.   at the very least, it was before i was even remotely interested in house, disco, or anything else within a shade of dancy.  interestingly enough, my favorite song in DDR was always a disco house track called “Kind Lady” by Okuyatos, a Japanese producer.  i say interesting, because it seems possible that i might have always liked disco house – i just didn’t know it yet.  so, while i was gathering tracks for the upcoming podcast, i luckily remembered this tune and managed to find a decent copy of the track.  of course, the original is only a buck thirty due to it being a DDR track.  There is an extended cut which eclipses the 7 minute mark, but it is really just the short version at the front and back with a 4 minute slap bass breakdown sandwiched in between.  Not too mention, it was a touch lacking in the “umfph” department.  Thus, i took it back to the shop and worked some magic to come back with the supermucho edit!  Enjoy.

it’s truly amazing how well motown and disco go together.  historically, this observation borders on intuitive given the close ancestry between the two musical styles.  regardless, it still revs me up to mix the two since i am such a big fan of both.  i found some nice Stevie Wonder vocals to throw over top of a recent track from Nighty Max called “Beach Hut.”  If you’re down, run over and check out his myspace.  It’s solid.

the astute among you might recognize this one.  it was in the first AC podcast.  i made it while i was putting tracks together for the first podcast cause i liked the Nighty Max track so much but I felt it needed vocals.  A lot of the current disco house that is being made (which isn’t too much. a lot of the so called “disco” being produced right now is not disco.  don’t let beatport and blogs ((or me, for that matter)) skew your perception of music!) with half bar samples of older tracks.  While the beats are getting a nice upgrade with the help of faster tempos and contemporary mixing techniques, the overall songs are, dare i say, a bit of on the boring side.  They are just so damn repetitive.  Personally, I like music that moves and takes you somewhere.  I can only surmise that this is why my mixing sounds kinda ADD at times.  I get bored listening to the same song for too long.   But, I digress.  Anywho, i’ve been working on a few original productions and a remix for the past 2-3 weeks, so in the meantime, i decided to finish this guy off and bounce him out just for you!  that’s how nice i am.

also, the mailman did bring me something nice (though i will admit i had to wait a little longer than expected), so prepare for a new podcast real soon.  pending the northeast does actually get a snow storm rendering me trapped in doors, i may just record it this weekend.

there is little doubt that my favorite blond country/pop singer is Carrie Underwood.  she is basically America personified.  saying you don’t like Carrie is pretty much the equivalent of saying you hate Brett “The Strongest Torso in Football” Favre, classic rock songs at college bars, or Starbucks.  as i dislike all three of those things, i suppose i might be obliged to like Carrie, but I promise it is more than that.  i believe she is both a talented singer and insanely attractive.  so yeah, now that that’s settled, i present to you my taylor swift mashup.

the first time i ever saw paramore was at the north star bar in philly about 4 years ago.  there was like 50 people there and it was awesome.  they’ve pretty much blown up since then, but i’m still in love with hayley’s voice and the breakdown from “crushcrushcrush” is just killer.  luckily, baron von detweiler was nice enough to hook me up with the acapella for it!  i went 180 degrees on this one.  justice is about as far as you can possibly get from pop punk, so i fig’d it would destroy all to mash the two up.  and, as it turns out, it does destroy all.  enjoy.
